Under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of the Sultanate of Oman, OPAL and MCREEE signed an agreement to Study Labor Market Needs in the energy transition
Muscat, Oman – In a move to empower a skilled workforce for the country’s energy transition, the Oman Energy Association (OEA) and the Majan Energy Center (MCREEE) signed a landmark agreement today, under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. This collaboration will see a comprehensive study conducted to analyze labor market needs within the Sultanate’s burgeoning clean energy sectors.
The study will focus on four key areas: energy efficiency, renewable energy, green hydrogen, and related industries. By thoroughly examining these sectors, researchers aim to identify and address current challenges related to workforce efficiency and the skills gap.
The analysis will encompass a multifaceted approach, examining issues, opportunities, and various considerations within these sectors. This will provide valuable insights to guide government and private institutions involved in Oman’s energy transition.
The ultimate goal is to equip these entities with the knowledge and tools needed to make informed decisions. This includes potential commercial investments, job planning and preparation, the development of targeted education and training programs, and fostering new job search opportunities within the clean energy space.
The study will also delve into the current and future state of Oman’s industrial landscape, particularly those sectors poised to play a significant role in the country’s economic future. Researchers will explore the dynamics of supply and demand within the labor market, analyzing factors such as expected growth rates and the specific skills required to fill the identified gaps.
Perhaps most importantly, the study will provide recommendations for essential policies, legislation, and frameworks. These will be instrumental in achieving a successful balance between meeting the anticipated demand for skilled labor and preparing the local workforce to actively participate in current and future clean energy projects.
The signing ceremony, which took place today, was officiated by Dr. Abdulrahman Al Yahyaei, Chairman of the OEA, and Dr. Abdulrahman Baboraik, Assistant Director of MCREEE. Dignitaries in attendance included Dr. Firas Al Abdawani, Head of the Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Department at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and Dr. Khalil Al Hanashi, Chairman of the Oman Hydrogen Alliance.
This collaborative effort signifies a significant step forward in developing a robust and skilled workforce. By equipping Omanis with the necessary expertise, the Sultanate can confidently navigate its transition towards a clean and sustainable energy future.
